2012 Fine Arts Festival

We had a great time at Fine Arts Festival last weekend. We had students from around the state, coming from as far as Bethel and the Kenai Peninsula as well as students from the Central Region. A record number of worship teams showcased their musical giftings in our kickoff rally on Friday night, with everyone gathering together to worship alongside the student leaders.

Over 50 students participated in events ranging from poetry to short sermon to spoken word and were able to receive constructive feedback from evaluators on how to improve even more in their talents. We want to send a huge shout out of thanks to our host church, Muldoon Community Assembly, the evaluators who volunteered their time and expertise, the youth pastors who helped coach and cheer on their students, and the students of Alaska who stepped into the talents and giftings God has given them.

Scholarships available for first-generation college students | Juneau Empire Mobile

This scholarship could be a great blessing to our Alaska Students. Northwest University is one of the eligible universities. The scholarship may be renewed for up to 5 years. The scholarship awards $7,500 to the successful applicant’s university to cover the student’s education expenses. The scholarship may be renewed for up to five years for students in good standing who maintain a 2.5 grade point average. Students may submit applications until May 31 on the scholarship page of the foundation’s website, www.alaskacf.org. Final awards will be announced by August. Great Land Worship Center Building Dedication

Pastor Milt Michener and Great Land Worship Center AG of Anchor Point (formerly known as Lighthouse Community AG) are now in their new building!  Superintendent Bill Welch and Presbyter Stephen Brown were present to take part in a special building dedication service this past Sunday.  This church, along with their parent affiliated church, Rivers of Life AG of Ninilchik, are doing very well.  We rejoice with them over what God is doing.  Thanks to Pastor Milt Michener for providing leadership to these congregations, along with Pastor Hap Michener, who is Pastor of Rivers of Life.

 

Churches Helping Churches

Two of our Alaska Ministry Network road-system churches have been a great blessing to one of our village churches located in the Yukon River Delta Region. In late summer, Missionary Odis Ganey with Pastor Stephen Brown led a team from New Life Assembly in Kenai to work on leveling, painting the exterior of the building, installing new windows, and installing new cabinets at Yukon Delta Assembly of God in Emmonak.

Last week, a team from Abundant Life Assembly in Sterling, led by Missionary Terry Hull and Pastor Steve Harshman, worked to paint the interior of the building and install new carpeting and linoleum.

Along with the physical work, Pastor Steve was privileged to minister in the church at Alakanuk on Sunday morning, which is having to meet in the parsonage at the present time due to a heating problem in the church building. Pastor Steve and Terry Hull traveled to Alakanuk from Emmonak via four-wheeler on the frozen Yukon River.

Other churches are encouraged to help their sister churches, especially those off the road-system where repairs, upgrades, and basic maintenance costs are very expensive due to the high costs associated with rural Alaska.

AKSOM in Yukon Delta

The first AKSOM class was held in Kotlik on March 14 and 15. Lattis Campbell taught the Corinthians Correspondence to the church. Three individuals took the test for the class, but all those who attended enjoyed the teaching.

Pastor Jimmy Okitkun and Maggie were great hosts for the AKSOM class.

On Saturday, March 17, Lattis taught an AKSOM class in Emmonak on Sermon Preparation. Those taking the class enjoyed the teaching and did well on the test.
